Roles within Maternity Maternity
Support Worker (MSW) MSW’s work in all areas of maternity from delivery suite to community settings and have a diverse range of skills from helping new parents with baby care and taking observations to supporting women and birthing people in early labour and teaching on study days. MSW’s can go onto become Midwives through taking advantage of the Midwifery apprenticeship scheme.
Midwives – The Midwife provides professional support to women and birthing people throughout their pregnancy journey. The Midwifery career can be varied and far reaching and include specialist roles in safeguarding, research, safety and quality, mental health, screening, education and advanced practitioners to name but a few.
Nursey Nurses provide specialised clinical care to newborn babies on the ward and in transitional care units. They
work closely with Midwives and the Neonatal teams.
